Week beginning 29th June 2020
Friday
Writing. Can you create a new pirate character who might live on the ship with Hank Chief and Percy Patch? Maybe it could be the pirate you drew on Monday. What is his or her name? What jobs do they do on the ship? What do they fight with and who do they fight?...
Creative Draw your own treasure map to help the pirates find some gold! There’s a template on Seesaw you could use or try this below….
Understanding the World Treasure maps often look very old and brown. How can we make the paper look old/brown? Experiment with different ingredients. You could try tea, coffee or soil perhaps…
Do you think you should draw the map on the paper before or after you’ve aged it? Try different methods to find out which makes the best old-looking map.

Thursday
Writing Imagine other animals go over the Troll's bridge. What would they say?
“I’m not trip-trapping, I’m … said the …”
Creative Some of you did such a fabulous job drawing pirates on Monday, I thought you might like to click here to watch a video about how to draw a parrot. I’m really looking forward to seeing how you get on!
Or maybe you’d like to make a pirate’s hook.
Understanding the World
If you’ve got a padding pool out, maybe you could make a bridge to cross over it or a plank to walk into it? (Or just use a tray of water.) Maybe you could make a bridge to go from one side of your bath to the other or a plank for your toys to jump from. I wonder what you could use…?

Wednesday
Writing Can you make up some story sentences using the pirate storyboard on Seesaw?
Creative Can you design a new flag for the pirate ship. There’s a template on Seesaw if you’d like to use one.
Understanding the World The troll finds some hoof prints in the sand. Can you find out about the different types of feet of different animals?
Login to Seesaw to watch a video about animals' hooves and paws Listen carefully - why do some animals have hooves and some have paws?
PE Click here for some yoga about a very different kind of troll!

Tuesday
The Troll doesn’t want fish for dinner. What might he like instead? You could use the template on Seesaw to help you.
Or maybe you could create a recipe to go in the troll's cookery book to give him a 'nice change from fish'. There’s a template on Seesaw if you would like to draw and label his meal.
Cookery Percy Patch made fish soup. Could you try making some soup?
Creative Can you design and make a treasure chest to store some valuable items (or for a troll to sleep in!).
Understanding the World. If you clean some pennies with cola or vinegar – they will become fabulously shiny pirate coins that you could put in the treasure chest.

Monday
This week our story is The Troll by Julia Donaldson. Enjoy the story together by clicking here, then see if you can answer the questions below.
The letters are really big when the troll sees someone going over his bridge. Do you know why?
How many different words for 'walking' can you find in the story (e.g. trip-trapping, scuttling).
Can you remember the order of the animals that went over the bridge?
Have a look to see what the pirates are doing on the picture with the centipedes. Why do you think they are doing this?
The troll finds the chest. What does he do that makes us think he is not very clever?
On the pirate ship, why was the Troll shuffling and not trip-trapping over the plank?
Does this story make you think of any other stores you know?
Writing
Being a pirate sounds a lot of fun. I wonder what you would do. Login to Seesaw for a template called ‘If I were a pirate’ and tell us all about it.
Creative
Have a go at drawing a pirate by clicking here.
PE Try some pirate themed yoga by clicking here (short version) or here (long version).
Understanding the World
Use the template on Seesaw to make a cut and stick treasure map with coordinates. Try a simple game of ‘battleships’ using the map. ( Choose just 3 pictures each to stick on otherwise the game will be too easy. It might also be better to change 1 set of numbers to letters so you can use coordinates like 1a or 3c).
