KS1 Multi Skills Afternoon: 24th January 2023
On Tuesday 24th January, Year 1 and 2 participated in a wonderful afternoon of multi-skills events to work on their fundamental movement skills. In groups, they had a go at challenges that tested their agility and balance skills as well as object control skills too! Well done to all of the children as they gave every challenge 100% even when they were finding it a bit tricky! Thank you to all of the young leaders who helped to make the afternoon a success!
Open Trail bring Balanceability to Clifton: February - March 2023
We have been so happy to welcome Hannah from Open Trail into Clifton over the past few weeks. Open Trail is a registered charity (1190929) established to encourage young people, of Worcestershire and the West Midlands, to strive for more than they think possible, despite their own personal circumstances. Its founder is Hannah Escott, GB Cycling Team Racer 2015-2018 and the 2016 and 2019 Women’s World 4X Mountain Bike Series Champion.
Hannah has been working alongside children in Fledglings and Robins delivering the Balanceability 'Learn to Cycle' program with the aim to give all children the skills and confidence to ride a bike. It teaches them how to ride whilst developing their physical literacy skills with a fleet of balance & first pedal bikes! As well as this, Hannah has also been working 1:1 with those children in Year 3 who may lack confidence when riding a bike or who may just benefit from extra practice time.
Hannah said:
I have had a fantastic time at Clifton-upon-Teme Primary School. All of the children have worked hard and showed superb levels of determination to succeed. I am so proud that all of the children I have worked with have gained in confidence and (most importantly) can now ride a bike!
Thank you Hannah for coming into school and doing such great work with the children. We can't wait to welcome the Ultimate Skills BMX bike track into school in the summer term in order to have a taster of the sport of BMX Racing!

Eagles' Gymnastics Festival @ Flics: 29th March 2023
On Wednesday 29th March, Eagles class enjoyed a day at Flics Gymnastics in Worcester as they participated in the Chantry Cluster Gymnastics KS2 Festival. Along with 3 other schools, they were able to hone their gymnastics skills and have the opportunity to use their gymnastics equipment. During the day, they went on the Parallel Bars, traversed the Beam, completed a floor routine and had a go at lots of different types of vaults.
Here is a short video of us on some of the equipment:

Fledglings enjoy their Tiny Olympics: Wednesday 3rd May 2023
On Wednesday 3rd May, Fledglings class were very excited to attend their first ever sporting event at the Chantry High School. They had been invited to participate in their very own Tiny Olympics where they could have a go at a range of sporting activities. They met lots of other Reception children from other schools and had a go at lots of different challenges, including hurdles, trampolining, curling, football and balancing. Fledglings were great sportspeople and all tried their very best, even when faced with different challenges. They were ready, respectful, safe, and had lots and lots of fun! Well done Fledglings for representing Clifton so brilliantly!
KS2 Cross Country Championships: Thursday 4th May 2023
Lots of us in KS2 went to the Cross Country Championships at Chantry this week. We were split into 4 races: Year 3, Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6 with the boys and girls starting at different points along the track route. Year 3 and 4 had to run for 1KM and Year 5 and 6 had to run for 1.5KM.
It was a superb atmosphere as everyone was cheering everyone else on no matter what school they came from or what their position was in the race. It really did help us to keep going right to end! We had some superb performances and we were all really proud of ourselves. Special congratulations to the 4 children in Year 3/4 who came in the top 5 of their races and the three Year 6 girls who placed 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the Year 6 race - what a fantastic result!!
We enjoyed the event even though we were all a bit tired by the end! Thank you to Mrs Hughes, Mrs Richards and all the parents for cheering us on so loudly! Thank you also to all the staff and Young Leaders who organised the event. We can't wait to compete again next year!
Year 3/4 Tag Rugby Festival: 15th May 2023
On Monday 15th May, a group of us from Woodpeckers class went to the Chantry to have a go at the sport of Tag Rugby. Some of us had played before but for many of us it was the first time we had played the sport. With the Chantry Young Leaders, we did some Tag Rugby drills and activities that helped us to learn some of the key skills such as: passing (remembering to pass backwards), running forwards as a team as well as the art of tagging.
After we did some of these activities, it was time to play some matches against the other teams that were also there. Out first match was against Martley and it was a close match. We scored a try quickly then Martley scored twice. Just before the final whistle, Harry scored to make the final score 2-2. We played Grimley next and we drew that match too. In our final match against Abberley, Harry scored a hat trick of tries but they got the final try right at the end to make the score 3-4 to them.
We had so much fun playing Tag Rugby and we are looking forward to keeping on playing in Mrs Hughes' Tag Rugby club on Mondays after school. Thank you to Mrs Coleman and the Young Leaders for a great evening!

Year 5/6 Lacrosse Festival: 17th May 2023
On Wednesday, a group of us from Eagles went to the Chantry to try out the sport of Lacrosse. None of us had played before so we were excited to have a go at a brand new sport. Here is a video to explain more about the sport:
/i/video/Eagles_Videos_2022-2023/How_to_Play_Lacrosse.mp4
With the Chantry Young Leaders, we played lots of games that would help us to learn some of the basic skills needed to play Lacrosse; the main one being how to pick up the ball using the lacrosse stick. We were taught that the best way was to STEP towards the ball, SQUAT down then SCOOP the ball up into the netted part of the stick.
Once we had mastered this, we played lots of different games that made us use this skill such as: Rob the Nest, Find the Bacon and Jumping the Sticks.
We had a great time having a go at Lacrosse. Thank you to Mrs Coleman and the Chantry Young Leaders for hosting the festival and we can't wait to play even more in school in our PE lessons.

Whole School Skipping Morning with Dan the Skipping Man: 17th May 2023
Dan the Skipping Man returned to Clifton this week to spend another morning helping us with our skipping skills. He last visited us in 2021 and since then many of us have been practising our skipping skills on a regular basis.
Skipping has many benefits to our health. The main ones are:
- It supports a healthy heart
- It helps to improve coordination, concentration and motor skills
- It gives you a better posture
- It helps to reduce stress and anxiety
- It improves your confidence and helps you to maintain good mental health
- Anyone can do it!
- You can skip on your own or with your friends
- It's super fun!
Here is a video that showcases some of the activities that Dan the Skipping Man does in schools.

Each class had a workshop with Dan, Rory and Jack. We learnt some of the basic skipping steps and then some of their skipping tricks such the Rondo, the Cross Over and the Double Skip. Then we all had a go at working together as a team to do some whole class skipping too.
At the end of the morning, the whole school went out into the playground to see a skipping show from the instructors and some of us got involved too!
Thank you so much to Dan, Rory and Jack for a fantastic morning!

Year 5 and 6 Rounders Competition: Thursday 22nd June 2023
For one of our final tournaments of the year, a team from Year 5 and 6 went to Chantry in order to compete in a Rounders tournament. We were really looking forward to it as it was a tournament that we hadn't entered before and we were excited to see how we would get on.
When we arrived, we were put into 3 groups. In our group was: Martley and Abberley. First we played Abberley and we won that game by just 1/2 a rounder. We were feeling very confident going into the second match against Martley. This was a very competitive game which we narrowly lost by 2 rounders.
Then we were able to play to further matches against Broadwas and Great Witley. We could tell that we were really beginning to gel as a team and our fielding skills certainly got better. We got quite a few players out and there was a magnificent catch by Braxton. We also scored lots of full and half rounders because we had good communication.
At the end, we worked out that we had come 6th overall which was a huge achievement and made us feel very proud of our efforts. Thank you to Mrs Coleman and the Young Leaders for organising the event - we had a great time!

Year 6 Transition Sports Day: 28th June 2023
On Wednesday 28th June, Year 6 went to Chantry High School to participate in their Year 6 sports day. The aim of this day was to have a go at some new sports and meet people who will also be in Year 7 next year. They had a go at lots of different events such as: Tennis, Long Jump, Sprints, High Jump, Javelin and many more. The afternoon ended with some very competitive relay races on the Chantry athletics track.
Year 6 returned to school absolutely 'buzzing' as they had had such a good time and met loads of new people. They are now looking forward to their next taster day at the Chantry on 13th July. Well done!

KS2 Cycling Fun Day with Open Trail: 5th July 2023
On Tuesday 5th July, Will from Open Trail came into school to enhance the cycling skills of KS2 and to set us some cycling challenges! First, we learnt more about how to use the gears on a bike and why these gears are there to make cycling easier. Once we had shown Will that we could use gears correctly, he then set up an ultimate skills course which include ramps and jumps. He told us that speed was very important when going over ramps as is having the pedals flat (at 6am and 9am). We had great fun racing around the course and timing each other!
Thank you Will for a great day of cycling! To find out more about Open Trail then click on the link below:
