2020 - 2021: Sporting Highlights:

Autumn Term 2020

Virtual Cross Country Championships: November 2020

On Tuesday 17th November, the whole school, in their bubbles, competed in the Worcestershire Virtual Cross Country Championships. KS1 and Reception had to run 1000m; Year 3/4 ran 1200m and Year 5/6 ran 1400m. It was a really long way but all runners were brilliant at persevering and encouraging each other. We certainly created lots of endorphins which helped to keep us motivated and feeling positive! We timed how long it took everyone and then worked out a class average which has now been sent to Ben, our School Games Organiser. We learn the results on 4th December. Good Luck everyone!

Eagles compete in the Virtual Pentathlon: October/November 2020

As we are unable to compete against other schools at the moment, Eagles class have been participating in the Worcestershire Virtual Pentathlon competition as part of the School Games initiative. Mrs Coleman from the Chantry School, who is head of P.E, came along to help us in the competition. The challenge is to compete in five different events, working out your score in each one. These scores are then added up to give each individual their overall pentathlon score. The events were:

Chest Push

Speed Bounce

Standing Long Jump

Shuttle Run Challenge

Vertical Jump

Good luck to all of the competitors; we will find out how we ranked in the league in December!

Virtual Competitions Results Update: December 2020

This term across the whole school, we have been competing in the West Worcestershire School Games Virtual Competitions run by our School Games Organiser, Ben. We normally love going out of school to different tournaments but, because we are unable too at the moment, we have really enjoyed competing against other school albeit virtually! This term we have entered the Hockey, Pentathlon and Cross Country championships.

Hockey Update:

Year 5/6 entered the Hockey challenge in October. It consisted of three activities: a speed challenge; a passing challenge and a turning challenge. They were not easy activities to master and we also did not know what the scores from the other schools would be. All we could do was try our best. Then on 16th October, Mrs Hughes checked Twitter to find out the results and she was so happy when she saw this:

Everyone in school was so proud of this result and showed how hard the class had worked on these challenges. A few weeks later the boys were presented with their winning medals. Congratulations boys; you have done yourselves and the school proud!

Cross Country Update:

IN November the whole school competed in the School Games Virtual Cross Country Championships. It was such a lovely event as the whole school came together (in their bubbles) to participate in a sporting tournament for the first time this year. Over 1250 children across West Worcestershire took part so the competition was tough! The Cross Country results were published on 4th December and this is how each class got on:

Well done to Eagles for coming in silver medal position. This is a superb result! Well done to everyone in school; we are all very proud of you!

Summer Term 2021

Chance to Shine Cricket Coaching begins: June 2021

This week the whole school began their Chance to Shine Cricket coaching sessions with Nick from Worcestershire Cricket Club. Chance to Shine is a national charity that aims to give all children the opportunity to play, learn and develop through cricket.

Chance to Shine works in schools to provide children with a brilliant first experience of cricket. They work with the 39 County Cricket Boards across England and Wales and Cricket Scotland to send specialist coaches into schools, once a week for six weeks, to support cricket coaching.

As well as the physical benefits of regular activity, cricket can be used to teach children important key life skills that will help them beyond the playground. Through the values of cricket, they are taught about respect and fair play. Here is a video to explain more:

In our first sessions, we focused on our throwing and catching skills. Nick gave us lots of tricky challenges to master!

Next week. we will be looking at bowling and how to use the bat to place the ball a particular part of the field. Thank you Nick for a great first day of cricket!
