Eagles Class and their Young Leader Training: 3rd October 2023

The children in Year 5/6 have been working hard in their Young Leader sessions over the past few weeks. Over the course of 4 weeks, they have developed their understanding of leadership and learnt lots of activities that they can begin to lead in school. Each session was built around some key words:

COMMUNICATION

EQUIPMENT

SPACE

SAFETY

INVOLVEMENT

ORGANISATION

FUN

I enjoyed the task that helped us to think about the importance of communication. We each had to describe a pattern on a card to each other. t was tricky because I could not see the card so I had to rely on clear instructions from my partner. We got quite close so that tells me that there was good communication between us!                                                      Alice Year 6

In some of the sessions leaders were put into teams and given an activity to explore. They had to learn the game, as well as think about how to make it easier and harder. Once they were experts, they then had to teach that game to another group successfully. This was another test of their communication skills.

Teaching another group our game meant that we had to know what we were doing beforehand. We had to make sure everyone in the group had agreed how we were going to teach the game and also think about what might be challenges that would stop the session being successful. We did great and the other team had lots of fun!                                                                                  Aussie Year 5

For the final session, the leaders had to plan and then teach a session to groups of children in Year 1 and 2. They had to make sure that their activity showed all of the 7 key words and showcased what they had learnt in the sessions. Their session had to include a warm up, an activity that could be made easier or harder and a cool down to finish. This session went really well and the children in Year 1 and 2 gave all the activities a big 'thumbs up!'

This means that a brand new set of Young Leaders, wearing their distinctive gold hoodies, will be outside at lunchtimes organising games and activities for the rest of the school to help increase activity levels as well as making lunchtimes a happy time for all. Well done Young Leaders!!

Year 5/6 Football Tournament: 9th October 2023

On the 9th of October, a team from Eagles class represented Clifton at the annual Year 5/6 Chantry Cluster Football tournament. We were in Pool A which meant that we had matches against: Grimley, Martley, Broadwas and Hallow - all very tough opponents. During the pool stage we won 2 of our matches and drew the other 2 which meant that we got through to the semi-finals.

Our semi-final was a close match and we were in it up until the last minute when Abberley were awarded a penalty and scored. We were so close to the final! Despite the disappointment, we were so happy to be awarded third place overall! Congratulations to Harry and George who scored some amazing goals; a big well done to Eddie for some great saves and to Charlie for being a superb team manager.

Thank you to all of the staff and Young Leaders at Chantry who organised and ran the event and a big thank you to all of the parents who cheered us on all the way through!

Year 3/4 Football Tournament: 16th October 2023

On Monday 16th October 11 enthusiastic members of Woodpeckers class travelled to the Chantry to take part in the annual year 3/4 football tournament.

The children played brilliantly as a team and showed wonderful sportsmanship throughout. They all competed well in every game and tried their very hardest.

They made their teacher very proud and represented the school wonderfully. Thank you so much to all the parents who turned up in the cold to cheer, your continued support is, as always, greatly appreciated.

Spring Term 2024

Year 1/2 Football Tournament: 1st February 2024

A huge congratulations to our Year 1/2 football team who competed in the KS1 Football tournament on Thursday 1st February.  Here is the team report:

The tournament was held at Chantry and 9 other schools were also there. We were all a bit nervous as some of us had not been in a tournament before. We had to play 5 matches to see if we would get into the semi-final. In our first and second matches we drew 1-1. Oli and Sascha scored the goals. We lost the next two but we did score 3 goals! We won our final game 1-0 as Hugo scored a great goal. We just missed out on a getting into the semi-final but we are pleased with our teamwork and our football skills.

KS1 Mini Olympics: Wednesday 14th March 2024

A team of 16 children from Robins Class represented Clifton at the KS1 Mini Olympics event that was held on 14th March at Chantry.

Team Sport Report:
We went to the Chantry and ran in lots of different races. We were in 4 teams: Year 1 girls, Year 1 Boys, Year 2 Girls and Year 2 Boys. There were lots of other schools there so when there was lots of cheering it was very loud! At the start, we watched a video all about the Olympics and then each school did a lap of the sports hall waving our flags. We had decided that we would be Germany. Then we ran in lots of different races such as: running races, throwing a beanbag into a hoop and bouncing a ball on a tennis racket. We had to make sure we listened and showed good teamwork. We had lots of fun but we were very tired by the end!

Well done to all of the team for representing Clifton so well. They fully deserved being awarded silver for all of their efforts as a team. Thank you so much to Mrs Coleman and her Young Leaders for putting on a fantastic event for us!

Eagles' Gymnastics Festival @ Flics: 20th March 2024

On Wednesday 20th March, we enjoyed a day once again at Flics Gymnastics in Worcester as we participated in the Chantry Cluster Gymnastics KS2 Festival. Along with 2 other schools, we were able to hone our gymnastics skills and have the opportunity to use their gymnastics equipment. During the day, we went on the Parallel Bars, traversed the Beam, completed a floor routine and had a go at lots of different types of vaults.

Here is a video of our trip to Flics:

We had a fantastic time and we enjoyed seeing what a proper gymnasium looked like. Thank you to everyone at Flics for hosting us and to Mrs Coleman (along with her Young Leaders) who helped to organise the day!

Summer Term 2024

KS2 Cross Country Championships: Thursday 9th May 2024

A team of over 20 of us in KS2 went to the Cross Country Championships at Chantry this week. We were split into 4 races: Year 3, Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6 with the boys and girls starting at different points along the track route. Year 3 and 4 had to run for 1KM and Year 5 and 6 had to run for 1.5KM.

It was a superb atmosphere as everyone was cheering everyone else on no matter what school they came from or what their position was in the race. It really did help us to keep going right to end! We had some superb performances and we were all really proud of ourselves. Special congratulations to  everyone, as despite the heat, kept going and finished the races. We had many runner in the top 10 of their races as well as a fantastic first place in the Year 5 girls race - what a fantastic result!!

We enjoyed the event even though we were all a bit tired by the end! Thank you to Mrs Hughes, Mrs Stallard and all the parents for cheering us on so loudly! Thank you also to all the staff and Young Leaders who organised the event. We can't wait to compete again next year!

Year 5 and 6 Rounders Competition: Thursday 20th June 2024

For one of our final tournaments of the year, a team from Year 5 and 6 went to Chantry in order to compete in a Rounders tournament. We were really looking forward to it as some of us had participated last year and really enjoyed it.

When we arrived, we were told we would be playing four matches against: Abberley, Grimley, Martley and Hallow. First we played Martley; it was a highly competitive match from both teams. Aussie and Harry scored some amazing whole rounders - the ball seemed to go for miles!  We were feeling very confident going into the second match against Abberley. This was again a match full of full and half rounders with a brilliant catch from Braxton.

Then we were able to play two further matches against Grimley and Hallow. We could tell that we were really beginning to gel as a team and our fielding skills certainly got better. We got quite a few players out and there was another magnificent catch by Will.

After all of our matches, Mrs Coleman announced the rankings and we were so pleased to hear that we had come third overall! We were so pleased with this result as it showed that we had been a brilliant team. Thank you to Mrs Hughes for taking us to the tournament and thank you to Mrs Coleman (and her Young Leaders) who made the event so enjoyable! We can't wait to play again next year
