Intent
At Clifton-Upon-Teme Primary School, our Physical Education curriculum and wider opportunities provision inspires all pupils to participate, enjoy, succeed and excel at individually targeted physical challenges. Our programme of study and extra-curricular provision engages pupils in both team and individual competitive sports and activities, while ensuring all children have access to at least 60 minutes of physical activity each day.
Through participation, personal challenge and competition, pupils build character and develop our core school values of respect, perseverance, responsibility, collaboration, ambition and confidence.
While developing their competence across a broad range of physical activities, our curriculum maximises opportunities for pupils to become physically confident in a way that supports their health and fitness. We aim for all children to lead healthy, active lives and develop the ambition and confidence to be advocates for lifelong wellbeing.
Implementation
We provide our children with opportunities to:
- Be active for personal benefit and enjoyment
- Understand how to keep their bodies healthy for life
- Experience a wide range of sports and physical activities, both recreational and competitive
- Work collaboratively with others
- Develop leadership skills and take responsibility
This is achieved through:
- Assemblies focusing on inspirational sporting figures, key values and major events
- High-quality PE lessons
- Intra- and inter-school competitions
- Cross-curricular learning (e.g. healthy bodies and nutrition in Science and DT)
- Extra-curricular clubs and sporting opportunities
- Enrichment activities such as The Daily Mile and active wellbeing programmes
- Active classroom initiatives (e.g. movement breaks Wake and Shake)
- Leadership opportunities such as Play Leaders
